PHU CHAISAI MOUTAIN RESORT & SPA, CHIANG RAI.
Phu Chaisai literally translate into “Mountain of Clear Heart” and is one of the first boutique resorts of Thailand, and first to incorporate lifestyle and wellness into the holiday experience.
Phu Chaisai Resort and spa in Thailand has its own unique, rustic style and leaves you feeling rather at home whilst visiting this uniquely distinctive property.

Phu Chaisai has won many awards over the years including ‘Best Small and Stylish Hotel‘ presented by ‘anywhere’. The Chiang Rai resort has also recently received the Award for Nature & Environment Northern Region ‘ by the Thailand Boutique Awards, presented by Prime Minister H.E. Abhisit Vejjajiva in 2010.
Phu Chaisai is the perfect getaway from the bustling city, and also as a good place to get back into touch with nature, surrounded by beautiful mountain landscapes and luscious pastures.
The resort has an iconic infinity pool which are perfect for wasting the days away, amidst the beautiful scenery that is forever present throughout the resort.

Food and beverages, breakfast and dinner are both decent in variety and taste. In fact, for a small resort, they tend perfectly to the cuisine and offer local and international dishes which are very pleasing to the palate.
Things to do, I hear you ask. Well, Chiang Rai is the perfect place to get away from the noise, and Phu Chaisai is situated about 30 minutes from the city centre. During your stay, there are a few activities you can partake in however; and that is exactly what we did.
The elephant riding experience has been the most stunning and exhilarating encounter with elephants that I have ever experienced. No equipment, no saddles or riding cushions; completely bare back, 2 up on the back of an elephant where you lead the beautiful majestic creature into the river to bathe and play with them.
During our time, there was also a young intact that thoroughly enjoyed squirting us with water and being a general lark. Such a great time, and so enjoyable to be able to encounter these animals so naturally.
The elephants are owned by the resort, so you can be assured that they are very well looked after. They maintain the lands and assist the farmers with cultivating the land for crops that are even used in the hotel’s cuisine.

The journey to visit the elephants is an experience in itself. Upon what appears to historical tractor type contraption vehicle, you’re lead through the countryside, inhaling and embracing the beauty of the nature before reaching your destination a short 15-20 minutes later.
The rooms/villas are modestly and rather fittingly designed to embrace the surroundings and nature. There is no TV, and that’s a good thing. There is ample WIFI everywhere though should you require it.
The large balcony with panoramic view is perfect for spending long hours talking and soaking up the experience.
